Last night, there was a string of high-profile victories for Democrats in gubernatorial races. Democrat Ralph Northam won the Virginia governor’s race defeating Republican Ed Gillespie. Democrats also gained thirteen Virginia state legislative seats. One was Danica Roem, the first openly transgender legislator who defeated a Republican incumbent who sponsored a bill that would have restricted bathrooms transgenders can use. . Democrat Lee Carter, who is supported by the Democratic Socialists of America also took out a Virginia incumbent Republican.
Democrats won the Governorship in New Jersey. New York Mayor Democrat Bill De Blasio was re elected. A republican will remain in Utah’s 3rd Congressional District while Maine voters said yes to an expansion of Medicaid and Ohio voters voted against an initiative to cap prescription prices, after Big Pharma spent 49 million dollars to prevent its passage.
